When to Schedule a Visit

It’s a good idea to have us check your car’s air conditioning system periodically to ensure proper function and perform any needed services. Generally, you should schedule this visit about once each year, preferably before you rely heavily on the A/C. However, you may observe signs that should prompt you to see us sooner. If your unit fails to power on at all, you must schedule a repair. This often results from an electrical problem such as a broken wire. The compressor may be bad if the air conditioner powers on but produces no cold air. If this is true, you’ll likely notice a change in the sound or feel of the system, as there will be no tell-tale signal that the compressor is cycling on and off. The most common issue, however, is a working system that doesn’t produce air that is cool enough. That’s almost always an indicator of a low refrigerant level. A system recharge should remedy the problem and can be expected occasionally over the life of a car. It shouldn’t, however, be needed often. If it is, we’ll need to find the leak. Another potential problem is a wet carpet or a puddle on the floor underneath the dash. Typically, this points to a clog that allows fluid to back up and overflow. The problem needs correcting to prevent interior mildew. Finally, a dank odor that becomes noticeable each time you use the A/C could signal mold in the ducts. We’ll need to clean your system to improve the air you breathe in the passenger cabin.
